CRUISIN' CLASSICS IS PROUD TO PRESENT THIS 1969 1/2 Plymouth superbee 440 six pack M CODE a12 car. The 1969 1/2 A12 Dodge Super Bee that you see here is car #606 in the A12 Registry. This car has an older rotisserie restoration that shows very well. This car started life as 1 0f 227 A12 Coupe Super Bees with automatic transmission but the car was converted to factory correct 4 speed status during the restoration. The original fender tag indicates that this car was originally equipped with the D32 HD Torqueflite automatic transmission along with the A12 package and V2 Hemi orange paint. The fender tag also shows the scheduled production date of 426 (4/26/1969) which is the second batch of A12 cars produced. The date stamp on the original K frame indicates (1689 2) 168th day of 1969 or June 17 1969 and that it was a second shift assembly. This manufacture date for the K frame narrows down the exact production date for the vehicle within a six day window.
The engine in this car is not the numbers matching engine but is the next best thing. The engine is an original A12 power plant from another car. In fact, it is the original engine from car # 21 in the A12 Registry, which was a six barrel road runner and the car still exists. The casting date of this engine is 5/5/69 with an assembly date stamping of 5/20/69 and still retains the last 8 digits of the VIN stamped above the oil pan for that vehicle. The E440 HP2 stamped engine was rebuilt to factory specifications. The original ultra-rare A12 exclusive air cleaner seals to the original lift off fiberglass hood which sets above the three original Holley 4392, 4393, and 4394 carbs that bolts to the original Chrysler/Edelbrock aluminum intake part # 3412046. The original dual point distributor part # 2875982 lights the fire through original Chrysler date code spark plug wires. The exhaust gases are spent through original correct casting HP exhaust manifolds, OEM H pipe, Hemi style mufflers, and decorative exhaust tips. The original Max Cooling equipped 054 radiator and shroud keep this engine running cool. The converted 18 spline Hemi 4 speed transmission is as close as it gets to being an A12 correct piece having a casting date of January 1969 and having a Lynch Rd. plant serial number stamped on it. This conversion has been done 100 % correct and is a very desirable A12 upgrade and shifts very smooth. The power is transmitted to the original Dana 60 differential that now sports a 3.73 gear ratio for a better blend of cruising RPM and performance. The front and rear suspension retains all of the original HD components that made up the S15 handling package that came standard with the A12 package. Correctly dated H wheels are fitted with OEM type Firestone Wide Oval G70-15 tires including the spare.
The interior of this car is very nice but Spartan as many A12 cars were. The original Rallye instrument cluster provides everything that you need to monitor the vitals including the Tic-Toc-Tach but the radio delete plate reminds you that this car is all business and was built for one purpose- going fast in a straight line!
This car runs and drives as good as it looks. The stiff suspension gives you a feeling of security while driving and you have to remind yourself that this is 50-year-old technology that you are behind the wheel of. Driving around town in this 390 horsepower 490 ft-lb of torque monster is as smooth as any grocery getter that you strap yourself into until you put your foot to the floor and those end carbs flop open- its all magic from there!
