Cruisin Classics is very proud and excited to present to you this exceptional 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe. We see a lot of really cool rides here at Cruisin Classics, but sometimes we get a car that is so special that all of us just stare at it in amazement – this is one of those cars! This Impala comes to us with an astounding amount of original documentation that has been carefuly preserved for the last 61 years. We have the original order sheet, original first owner title, original shipping form, original final bill of sale, original window sticker, original owners guide, original owner protection plan booklet, and the original custom accessories guide! These documents show that this uniquely optioned car was specially ordered and originally sold by Clements Chevrolet in Sykesville Maryland in April of 1963. This Tuxedo Black Sport Coupe was ordered with black trim, a 4-speed close-ratio Borg Warner transmission, a Turbo-Fire 409 engine, Positraction rear axle with 4.11 gears, power steering, 2-speed wipers, a heavy duty battery, a push-button radio with rear speaker and antenna, front seat belts, a tinted windshield, a front grille guard, and rear bumper gaurds. The final bill of sale shows that before delivery of the car, Clements Chevrolet installed dual-quad Carter carburetors and a matching intake manifold then tuned the engine to new specs! This $95 dollar add-on resulted in a 25hp increase on top of the 409's already impressive 400 horses. As if all of this isn't cool enough, this Impala still retains its original 409 V-8, the original 4-speed transmission, the original intake manifold, and dual 4-barrel carburetors (new Edelbrock carbs are on the engine and original Carter carbs are in the trunk)! To put a cherry on top of this already amazing car, it was treated to an extensive restoration in 2019 that brought it to the level of excellence that you see today! Let's dig a little deeper into this very special Impala....
This '63 Impala comes to us today wearing a slick looking, good quality respray of its original color – Tuxedo Black. This deep black serves as the perfect backdrop for all of the gleaming chrome and brightwork that adorn the long rectilinear body. The bright chrome front bumper still retains its original grille guard, which really adds to the front end look. The silver eggcrate grille is in excellent condition and it's flanked by dual side-by-side T3 headlights. A colorful red, white, and blue Chevy bowtie badge adds a pop to the front lip of the hood. Bright accents continue on the sides of the car with window trim, drivers side mirror, door handles, drip rails, and horizontal fender accent strips all gleaming in the light. “409” cross-flags badges affixed to the fenders let the world know what's hiding under the long hood. Beautiful chrome body side molding spears with white centers travel from the front fenders all the way to the back bumper and feature “IMPALA” lettering at the rear. Also at the rear, above the spears, are like-new “running Impala” badges. Looking at the car from behind you'll see a full-width aluminum and chrome panel in excellent condition that houses the triple tail light assembly. The lip of the trunk lid features the same colorful Chevy bowtie badge worn on the hood. The rear bumper is just as nice as the one up front and it still retains its originally ordered bumper guards. Capping off this stunning exterior are black steel wheels with dog-dish poverty caps and BF Goodrich Silvertown bias-ply tires – an absolutely perfect choice for this Impala!
Lift the hood to reveal a truly impressive engine bay that is sure to draw attention at any car show. The freshly painted, numbers-matching, orange 409 block is topped with cast heads, polished valve covers with “409 Turbo-Fire” stickers, the original intake manifold, twin 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetors, and a chrome dual snorkle air cleaner with “409” and crossflags badging plus a “425hp” sticker. Exhaust flows through perfect looking cast manifolds and newer pipes & mufflers to exit behind the rear wheels with a heavenly rumble. Many parts look like new under the hood, including the alternator, single brake reservoir, power steering unit, and wiper motor. Attention to detail is everywhere you look – even little details like the correct Delco battery topper and GM Optikleen washer bottle have been attended to. Hoses, belts, and wiring all appear to be correct and recently replaced. As mentioned before, the big 409 is mated to the original numbers-matching Borg Warner close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission that puts power to the ground via a Salisbury-type GM rear axle with 4.11:1 gears. Stopping power comes from 4-wheel manual drum brakes.
Open the drivers door and working courtesy lights pop on to illuminate a stunning black interior. The black OEM door panels with silver buttons, long armrests, and vent window cranks are in excellent condition. Both the door seals and the dew wipes look new, as does the bright Fisher Body sill plate that welcomes you inside. The bench seats are dressed in OEM-style black vinyl with black and grey cloth inserts and silver buttons, and they're as comfortable as they are beautiful. Still present are front seat belts – just as originally ordered from the factory. At the top center of the back seat is a shining Impala speaker cover. The black metal dash features a “coved” instrument panel that is home to a speedometer, fuel gauge, clock, and warning lights for oil, gen, and hot & cold. Mounted just above the steering column on the dash is a factory tachometer. Also on the dash are controls for the working 2-speed wipers, working heat and fan controls, and what appears to be the original AM push-button radio (now inoperative). Mounted under the dash to the drivers left are aftermarket BWD gauges for oil and temperature. Directly ahead of the driver is a 2-spoke black steering wheel with bight Impala centercap and working horn ring. Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox with working courtesy light. Rising up from the black hook & loop carpeted floor is a dog-leg shifter with white pattern ball that shifts like butter. Chrome touches on this Impala aren't just limited to the exterior – chrome rises up the A-pillars and follows the roofline then comes down the C-Pillars behind the rear side windows. There is also chrome trim above both the windshield and back window. While you're looking up you'll see that there are dual white visors up front and a nice tight white vinyl headliner on the ceiling. Around back in the trunk is a full spare with factory jack, vinyl mats, 2 extra red tail light lens covers, and both original 4-barrel Carter carburetors (in the boxes the new carbs came in). Just like the doors, the trunk has a new rubber seal too. This Impala comes with a binder that contains all of the original documents that were mentioned earlier as well as a framed display of copies of the documents to use at car shows and events. Though we are aware that a restoration took place in 2019, we have no receipts or documents from it.
Whether you're a collector, an Impala fan, or someone looking for some classic muscle, you are going to be floored by this over-the-top cool '63! This is a rare, highly documented, collector-quality car that is sure to grab everyone's attention wherever it goes! It's not often that we see '63 Impalas of this caliber and provenance and we doubt that it will be here for long. Give our friendly staff a call today and be the one who cruises away with this gorgeous Chevy!
