Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you this rare, low-mileage 2003 Mercury Marauder. The Marauder made its debut in 1963, and two variations of the car were produced before production stopped in 1970. In 2003, Mercury revived the Marauder nameplate after a 33-year hiatus. Similar in concept to its 1960s namesake, the new Marauder offered upgraded chassis, suspension, and powertrain components over the standard Grand Marquis. Just over 11,000 Marauders were built on Ford's Panther platform in Ontario, Canada over the course of the car's two-year production run. Of the 7,838 cars made in '03, 7,093 were Black, 417 were Silver Birch, and a mere 328 were dressed in Dark Blue Pearl (a 1-year only color). The car before us today not only wears that rare and beautiful Blue paint, but it also boasts only 9,919 actual miles, 2 owners, all service records since new, and a clean CarFax!
The factory Dark Blue Pearl paint is in excellent condition with only a few miniscule rock chips from having been driven – it presents like a showroom-new car. Up front, you'll find a body-color vertical bar grille with a bright Mercury badge flanked by crystal clear rectangular headlights. Beneath are a body-color bumper, an air intake, and round factory fog lights. As you move around to the side of the car, you really get a full sense of its monochromatic look with the only chrome being side window trim, wheels, Mercury emblems on the grille & decklid, and an embossed “MARAUDER” on the rear bumper. The dual side mirrors, body side molding, door handles, and bumpers are all done in Blue. Adding an accent to all the blue is a very tasteful 3-line aftermarket white pinstripe that runs tip to tail just above door handle height (done by artist Tom Vannortwick of Well Oiled Machines in VA). The star of the view from the side is the 18” 5-spoke forged and polished aluminum alloy wheels with very cool Mercury-Head center-emblems (an homage to the 60's models). Those stunning wheels are all wrapped in Michelin Cross-Climate tires that were just put on in 2024 (2023 DOT codes). Between the wheels, you'll notice a black protective rocker cover that prevents chipping. Around the rear are pristine clear taillights, the aforementioned embossed bumper, and a set of Megs chrome tailpipe tips that look and sound fantastic.
Lift the hood to reveal a very clean bone-stock engine bay illuminated by a courtesy light. At the heart is a 4.6-liter DOHC V-8 – the same engine used in the Mustang Mach 1 and Lincoln Aviator that year. This stout V-8 sends 302 hp (factory-rated) to the rear wheels via a 4-speed 4R70W automatic overdrive transmission, an aluminum driveshaft, and a rear axle with new 4:10 gears (installed in 2024 by MO's Speed Shop in Dallas, Georgia). When MO's swapped the rear gear, they also added their well-known “Marty-Tune” - resulting in new shift points, more power, and better throttle response. Other highlights include factory A/C, speed-sensitive variable assist power steering, and power 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS.
Inside the cabin is an immaculately clean and well-preserved interior with Light Flint Nudo leather seats that just beg you to hop in and go for a drive. The doors are equipped with power locks, windows, and mirrors as well as controls for the power-adjustable front seats. The front bucket and rear bench seats are in exemplary condition, and they are embossed with a Mercury-Head logo on each seat-back. Between the front seats is a center console with armrest/storage box, cupholders, and a shifter for the automatic transmission. The driver is treated to a leather-wrapped steering wheel with easy-touch controls for the stereo, temperature & fan, and cruise control. The wheel is on a tilt column that also offers a stalk for the intermittent wiper controls. Directly ahead of the driver on the dash are white-faced gauges for fuel and temp as well as a 140mph speedometer and a tachometer. In the center of the dash is a factory AM/FM/CD/Cassette stereo that sounds great and works in concert with a trunk-mounted factory 6-disc changer. Beneath the stereo are HVAC controls that offer cold A/C, hot heat, a strong fan, and a rear defogger. Beneath those controls are two analog gauges from Autometer for oil pressure and voltage. Also on the dash are a button to disable the traction control, a switch for the power-adjustable foot pedals, and a simulated satin aluminum trim piece that runs side to side. Ahead of the front passenger is a glovebox with the original owner's handbook portfolio. Both driver and passenger are kept safe with front airbags. Overhead is a console with map lights, garage door opener system, and sunglass storage as well as a tight grey felt headliner. Underfoot is dark grey factory carpet that's kept nice with carpeted logo floormats. Back in the fully lined trunk, you'll find a covered factory spare tire, a cargo net, a working courtesy light, a fitted car cover, the 6-disc changer, and an SCT X 4 scan tool from MO's (in its box). This Marauder also comes with 2 keys, 2 fobs, a valet key, a Marauder keychain, and a framed window sticker.
If you're a Marauder fan, you will recognize just what a rare and desirable example this blue beauty is! Finding a Dark Blue Pearl car with Light Flint interior, under 10K miles, a 4:10 differential, and a Marty tune is like looking for a needle in a haystack – but look no further, we've got one live in captivity here at Cruisin Classics! Give us a call today because there's a strong chance it won't be here tomorrow!
