Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you this stunning 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. The '70 Chevelle is one of the hottest classic American muscle cars on the road today and this particular car is a testament as to why! Like many Chevelles, this car wears the coveted “SS” badging that sets it apart from its lower tier counterparts. It is tough to prove a Chevelle is a true SS, but this car goes a long way toward that goal. It comes with a partial build sheet that is missing the upper portion that contains the last 6 digits of the VIN, but the remaining portion of it describes the car in front of us and all of its options exactly. Importantly, the build sheet denotes an F41 special performance suspension, SS emblems, and the ZL3 SS 396 conversion! Not only does the build sheet describe this car perfectly, it also matches the information provided by the cowl tag. Additionally, all of the features that a true SS car would possess are present on this car – like the round gauges, SS-specific padded rear bumper, boxed rear control arms, and heavy-duty front and rear sway bars just to name a few. Let's dig a little deeper into this breathtakingly cool Chevelle...
This 1970 Chevelle comes to us dressed completely as it was originally built, with Black Cherry paint, White hood and decklid stripes, an Ivory vinyl top, and an Ivory interior – a simply beautiful color combination! The paint is in high-driver quality condition with a lustrous shine and only a few minimal imperfections. The Black Cherry and Ivory look so good together it's impossible not to just stare at it. Up front you'll find a working cowl hood with “Cowl Induction” badging and hood pins, the iconic dual side-by-side round T3 headlights in individual bright bezels, a split horizontal black grille with “SS” badging at the center, and a mirror-finish chrome bumper with integrated turn signal lights. As you move around to the side of the car, the Ivory top and all of the gleaming brightwork come into focus. The Ivory vinyl top is in impeccable condition with no stains. Chrome accents include wheel lip molding, window molding, drip rail molding, vinyl top border molding, door handles, dual side mirrors, and “SS 396” fender badging. The muscular stance of this Chevelle is perfectly enhanced by GM 5-spoke SS wheels all wrapped in white-letter BF Goodrich tires. The cool look continues around back with a padded “SS” bumper with integrated taillights, a hidden gas fill behind the license plate, White decklid stripes, “Chevelle by Chevrolet” badging, and dual chrome exhaust tips. After reviewing this car on a lift, it's our opinion that it retains its original rear quarters and floorpans.
Pull the pins and pop the hood to reveal a very tidy and well organized engine bay that you'll be proud to show off at any car show or cruise-in. At the heart of it all is a 1970-only (suffix code CTW) GM 396 (402ci) big block V-8 (NOM) topped off with a stock looking intake manifold, chrome valve covers, a Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor, and a big black cowl hood-specific air cleaner with a “396 Turbo-Jet 350hp” decal. Other highlights include working factory A/C (R12), power steering, and power front disc brakes with a newer-looking booster and master cylinder. Exhaust flows from cast manifolds through Flowmaster mufflers before exiting the tips in the rear with a heavenly rumble. The big block 396 is mated up to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a 12-bolt rear axle with freeway-friendly 3.31:1 posi-traction gears and a chrome cover plate. With this drivetrain, this Chevelle is ready to lay rubber, cruise comfortably at 70mph on the freeway, and everything in between.
Prepare to be impressed when you swing open the drivers door, because the interior is every bit as nice as the exterior! Both the dome and center console courtesy lights pop on immediately to illuminate the Ivory interior. The door panels are in very good condition with white vinyl accented by bright trim strips and an “SS” badge. A bright Fisher Body sill plate and nice black hook & loop carpet welcome you inside for a seat in one of the comfortable Ivory vinyl front buckets. All seats, front and back, are OEM-correct and in excellent condition. A center console sits between the front seats and it features an armrest/storage box, seatbelt holders, and a horseshoe shifter for the automatic transmission. Ahead of the driver is a black 2-spoke “SS” steering wheel with a working horn on a tilt column. The wheel frames a cluster of round gauges that include amps, tachometer, 120mph speedometer, temp, fuel, and a working clock. The odometer reads 66,937 miles but the title says mileage discrepancy. Also on the main dash are controls for the lights, working wipers, and the factory climate controls that offer cold A/C, hot heat, and a working fan. Cruisin tunes come courtesy of an original-looking push-button AM radio that's supplemented with an under-dash mounted Audiovox FM tuner. The music plays through speakers in the dash and you'll find an uncut package tray in the rear. Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox with courtesy light that contains the original owners manual in its original plastic bag. Overhead is a tight black vinyl headliner. There is a stain on the front passenger side carpet that can easily be covered by a floormat, but aside from that the carpet looks great. Around back in the trunk are a vinyl mat, a full spare with vinyl cover, a factory jack, a car cover with storage bag, a set of black rubber Chevy floormats, a very nice poster-board for displaying at car shows, an Autoworld die-cast replica of the car (in the exact color scheme as this car), and the aforementioned laminated build sheet. Also in the trunk are four new pieces of wheel lip molding, though the molding that's on the car is in good condition already.
If you're looking for a 1970 Chevelle or just an exceptionally cool classic muscle car you're going to want to take a serious look at this car! This Chevelle checks all the boxes with a year-correct big block, factory A/C, power steering, power front disc brakes, performance suspension, slick paint, gleaming brightwork, and a color combo that's a real show-stopper! Don't let this opportunity pass you by – give our friendly staff a call today before someone else snatches this beauty up!
