Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1950 GMC 100. This is a truck that you can hop in and drive today, and it is a good candidate for a restoration to take it to the next level. This GMC comes to us dressed in a driver-quality coat of matte black paint that does show some cracking, chips, and imperfections. The chrome and brightwork on the truck is intact, but many of the pieces are faded and exhibit some pitting and wear. Up front is an original-looking GMC badge that sits just above a 4-bar horizontal chrome grille. Flanking the grille are round headlights with visors and round turn signals, and beneath is a chrome front bumper. The center spine of the bulbous hood is painted black, but the hood ornament retains its original look (though worn). Both sides of the hood wear what appear to be original “GMC 100” badges. Above the split windshield, you'll see a black sun visor that adds to the cool look of the truck. The windows are framed in original trim, and both sides of the truck offer solid running boards. The side view is greatly enhanced by a set of red-painted steel wheels with “GMC” logo mini moon caps and beauty rings. The front tires are Duralon Ventrex IVs, and the slightly wider rear tires are Custom 428 All-Seasons. In the back, the bed floor is a solid piece of painted steel that has been mounted on top of what looks like the original wood floor (when viewed from underneath, the wood looks split, cracked, and quite old). Also in the rear is a GMC logo tailgate, a black painted bumper, and a single exhaust exit.
Under the big hood, you'll find a very original-looking engine bay with a 216ci inline 6-cylinder at the center. The block is dressed in older orange paint, as is the GMC logo valve cover. The simplistic setup includes a single-barrel carburetor topped with an oil-bath air cleaner. Steering is manual, and so are the 4-wheel drum brakes. The 6-cylinder is mated up to a 4-speed manual transmission with a very low first gear (“granny-gear”). Exhaust flows through a cast manifold and a glass-pack style muffler before exiting the rear.
Inside the cab is a black and grey interior with metal surfaces like the doors, cab walls, and dash painted a metallic grey. The doors are partially dressed in grey cloth with map pockets, and the bench seat is covered in grey striped cloth with some minor imperfections. Black carpet is on the floors and kick panels, while a grey felt headliner sits overhead. The driver's side has a visor, while the passenger's does not (common in these older trucks). Ahead of the driver is a large 3-spoke OEM steering wheel with a metallic grey painted GMC logo horn button (inop.) and a spinner knob for easier turning. Ahead of the wheel in the dash is a circular 4-in-1 gauge cluster with working gauges for gas, amps, oil pressure, and temp. Beside that is a 90mph speedometer with an odometer that reads 15,870 miles (the title claims “actual miles” but we are unsure if that's true). In the center of the dash is a chrome grate with “General Motors Truck” on it. This same chrome finish extends to the right to cover the glovebox door as well. Under the grate is a plaque commemorating the “1987 4th Annual Summer Rod Run in Salina, KS”. The choke pull-knob works, as does the heater pull-knob. Under the dash is a white knob that controls the working GMC-badged under-dash fan unit. The light pull-switch works as well, but the low-beam on the driver's headlight is out. Both the wipers and the turn signals are inoperative. Down on the floor, you'll find a foot-button start for the driver and battery access under the passenger's foot area.
This cool GMC truck is ready to hop in and drive to a local cruise-in or car show today, and it also offers an excellent starting point for customization or a full restoration – it's your choice. It's not often that you find a '50 GMC 100 at this price, so don't let this opportunity pass you by! Give our friendly staff a call today!
