We here at Cruisin Classics are proud and excited to present to you this stunning real-deal numbers-matching 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 survivor! We see a lot of really cool rides roll through our showroom, but it's not often that one captures our attention and enthusiasm like this '69 Z/28. This car still retains it's original engine and drivetrain as well as almost all components under the hood, it's still wearing most of its original Hugger Orange paint, it has original sheet metal & floorpans (never cut on!), it comes with copies of all four titles since new as well as the original Protecto-plate, and it has a mere 55,090 Actual Miles on the odometer – just try to find another like it! Let's dig deeper into this very special Camaro...

This Z/28 was built at the Norwood plant during the first week of November 1968 (a very early production car) and was sold to a gentleman in Chillicothe, Ohio, on November 30th. He owned the car until 1980, when it was sold to yet another gentleman in Chillicothe, who served as caretaker until 1988. In 1988, it was purchased by someone in Grove City, Ohio, who owned it for a month, drove it 340 miles, then sold it to another Grove City resident who went on to own the car for the next 38 years. During those 38 years, the car was kept in a climate-controlled garage and driven very sparingly. When we took ownership of the car last month, our Performance Center thoroughly inspected the car bumper to bumper and resolved the items that needed to be addressed. We replaced the rear main seal and oil pan gasket, cleaned the engine bay and painted the block, changed the oil, adjusted the carburetor and choke, added a new voltage regulator, new fuel sender, new exhaust flange gaskets, new spark plugs, new dimmer switch, and a new battery. We also took the time to document and photograph all of the available numbered and/or dated components on the whole car – you'll find the photos in the array and the numbers and dates below in the bullet points. What we learned from this is that this is one of the most “righteous” '69 Z/28's we've encountered!

This Camaro is dressed in mostly original Hugger Orange paint with black hood and decklid stripes, which matches the cowl tag code (72 B). The paint is driver quality and shows light checking, particularly on horizontal areas, when viewed closely under bright light. There are some small imperfections and a touch-up here and there, but the paint really does look fantastic for its age. The roof is covered in black vinyl in excellent condition, and we believe that it's likely original from the factory. The front view features a cowl hood with “302” badging, round headlights set in a grey eggcrate grille with “Z/28” badging, a gleaming chrome bumper, and a black chin spoiler. Moving around to the side, there's plenty of brightwork to catch the eye - “Z/28” and “Camaro” script fender badging, wheel lip molding, rocker molding, door edge guards, drip rail molding, windshield & rear window trim, vinyl top surround, and ornamental louvers on the rear quarters. Adding more bright pop to the look are chrome door handles and drivers side mirror. The stance of the car is just right as it sits atop a set of original (date-code correct K18) 15” Rally wheels with beauty rings and centercaps all wrapped in Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires. At the rear, you'll find the iconic single-piece decklid spoiler, “Z/28” badging, a bright chrome bumper with vertical guards, and dual exhaust exits. Panel fitment is great around the whole car, and the doors shut perfectly, just as you'd expect with a car that retains its original quarters.

When you lift the hood, a courtesy light pops on to illuminate the clean stock engine bay. At the center is what every Z/28 fan hopes to see - a bright orange numbers-matching DZ 302ci V-8. This engine came from the factory with 11:1 compression, forged pistons, a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and solid lifters. The block is topped off with date-correct heads, finned valve covers with cross-flags logo, and a correct intake manifold. The Holley 780cfm 4-barrel carburetor has a correct DZ stamping, but we believe that it may be a “service replacement” part. Atop the carburetor is a chrome-topped air cleaner with a rubber cowl ring and “302ci 290hp” decal. Still present at the front of the engine is the factory smog system. The alternator, starter, water pump, and distributor are all date-code correct for the car. The aggressive 302 is mated up to a numbers-matching 4-speed Muncie M20 manual transmission that puts power to the pavement via a correctly dated 12-bolt rear axle with 3.73:1 positraction gears (correct for a '69 Z/28). Exhaust flows through cast manifolds and what we believe to be the original factory chambered exhaust system – exiting the rear with a crisp and distinctive sound. Stopping power is provided by power front disc and rear drum brakes, while steering is manual.

It should come as no surprise that the interior of this car has been treated with the same great care and respect as the exterior and engine bay. When you open the driver's door, the dome courtesy light comes on to illuminate a well-preserved black standard bucket seat interior (code 711). The black door panels are both in very good condition and feature crank windows. The black vinyl bucket seats with headrests welcome you to hop in and go for a cruise. The seats are comfortable and all in good condition, with the only notable flaw being a tiny cigarette burn mark on the base of the passenger seat (not a hole, just a small mark that you have to look for to find). Splitting the bucket seats is a factory center console that offers a storage box, seatbelt holders, a Hurst shifter with chrome knob and woodgrain surround, and working gauges for battery, temp, fuel, and oil. Mounted atop the storage box is a rare Z/28 option – a working 8-track tape player with padded armrest top – very cool! Ahead of the driver is a crack-free black 2-spoke steering wheel with a working horn on a fixed column. The original black dash ahead is crack-free, but shows some light warping from age. The dash is home to a 120mph speedometer, a clock (inop), a 7K tachometer, and working controls for the heat and fan. Below, surrounded by woodgrain bezels, are controls for the lights and working 2-speed wipers (to the left) and a Delco AM radio to the right. Though the radio powers up and lights up, we were unable to get any sound out of it – unlike the 8-track player that works perfectly. Tunes play through a dash-top speaker, kick panel speakers, and two speakers on the rear package tray. Ahead of the passenger on the dashboard is a glovebox with a working courtesy light. A quick look overhead reveals a tight black vinyl headliner and overhead shoulder safety belts, while underfoot, you'll find quality black hook & loop carpet in good condition, topped with black rubber Chevy floormats. Around back in the trunk are a vinyl houndstooth mat, a full matching spare with factory jack, and a set of newer black “Z/28” logo fender covers for working on your ride.
